Chandigarh Boxer Krrishpal Secures Medal at World Boxing Championship
Chandigarh’s own Krrishpal has proudly advanced to the semifinals of the U-19 World Boxing Championship in Colorado, USA, confirming a medal for India. Training under UT Sports Department coach Bhagwant Singh, Krrishpal has showcased remarkable skill, securing his spot by defeating Jacob Friend of Australia 4-1 and Mohammed Abdessamed Yahiaoui of Algeria by referee-stopped contest (RSC). In the quarterfinals, he overpowered England’s Joseph Turner in the second round, also by RSC. In the semifinals, Krrishpal is set to compete against a boxer from the host country on October 31 at 4 a.m.
Krrishpal’s achievements are notable. A bronze medalist at the Youth World Boxing Cup in Montenegro, he also holds the title of Junior National Champion and was named Best Boxer at the Junior National Boxing Championship in 2021. Additionally, he has represented India twice in the Asian Championships, securing a gold in the 46kg category at the Junior Asian Boxing Championship in Jordan and another gold in the 50kg category at the SGFI Nationals in Akola.
Currently a Class 12 student at Shri Guru Gobind Singh Senior Secondary School in Chandigarh, Krrishpal has brought pride to his country and city. He trains at the Sector 56 Boxing Coaching Centre under Coach Bhagwant Singh, with additional support from coaches Jai Hind and Pankaj Chauhan, according to Charanjit Singh Virk, general secretary of the Chandigarh Amateur Boxing Association.
