In January, Meta announced a series of changes, including ending its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs, removing fact-checkers, and altering its content moderation policies. The Legal Defense Fund (LDF) has decided to exit Meta's external civil rights advisory group due to these changes and concerns over their impact on Meta's content moderation and diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA) policy. LDF is worried that the changes will subject members of protected groups to more attacks, harassment, and harm, driving them off Meta's services and impoverishing conversations. Meta's policy changes have also been criticized for potentially violating federal civil rights laws.
